Sticking With What’s Important
Listening to the buzz in Las Vegas, this past week, it is clear many builders are struggling to find a way to survive these turbulent times. Everyone is complaining that all their customers seem to be concerned with is price. In response, some builders are sacrificing everything, trying to become the low price provider. Cutting specifications, finding cheaper labor and using lower grade components are all being discussed.
In any market, there is room for only one low price provider, as recent experience with airline travel should make abundantly clear. Everyone else chasing the low price position will ultimately place their customers at risk by cutting costs too much.
It’s more important than ever right now that new home shoppers pay close attention to the quality of the home their chosen builder intends to provide. Since every builder claims to offer a high quality product, shoppers should ask for specific evidence of quality.
“Tell me five things you do to assure superior quality,” is a great question for buyers to ask. Listen closely to the answer you hear. Probe a bit to satisfy yourself that the home you are thinking of buying will serve you well.
It’s an old thought, but a great one, that the pleasure of owning a home of genuine quality will long outlast the thrill of getting a “great deal”. Ultimately, your happiness, and that of your family, is the important thing in selecting a builder.
Choose wisely.
