Thanks to all of you who submitted your energy-saving ideas during the second week of our contest. Special thanks to you pool owners. Backing off of the heat and filter cycles will absolutely save energy.  The judges were also impressed by the submission involving high tech window shades. We’ll be looking to find out more about them to pass along to you. 

Jason captured a lot of sentimental notice with his idea about planting fast-growing shade trees. Hey, guys, it’s getting to be the right time of year to do that. 

But our judges chose another submission to be our bright idea winner for week two of our contest. Thank you Joe, for your suggestion to swap out old fashioned incandescent light bulbs for the new CFL bulbs. This struck our judges as a common sense step anyone could take. It also gave us the opportunity to illustrate the power of Joe’s bright idea with the thoroughly modern CFL bulb you see here. 

No more incandescent bulbs floating over someone’s head to illustrate the arrival of a good idea. It’s a whole new era. 

So, let’s all follow Joe’s suggestion to get busy moving to CFL bulbs. If staying within a tight budget is a high priority for you right now, think about buying just one or two bulbs each time you go to the store. That will spread out your investment so it won’t seem so large. Pretty soon, you’ll have gotten rid of all your old, electricity-wasting incandescent bulbs, and you’ll have done yourself and all of us a big favor.

So, on to week three of our contest. Remember, we are looking for energy-saving ideas that apply to your home. The overall contest will run for four weeks. A winner for each week will be announced right here. Each weekly winner will receive a complimentary $25 Gift Card to Home Depot. We will also designate a Grand Prize Winner who will receive a $250 check from LifeStyle Homes.

Remember, there are some rules which apply to our contest, and you should check them out. But most of all, let’s have some fun with this – fun with a serious purpose.
